When Kat receives a letter from her old school friend Sina, she is invited to leave Norway and begin again on a cocoa farm in Fiji. Sina, now widowed and living far from the life they once imagined, also calls three other women from their long-separated circle. Each arrives carrying private disappointments, unfinished relationships and the fear that happiness may have passed her by. In the tropical heat, the friends confront old misunderstandings while learning the demanding work of growing cocoa and building a shared enterprise. Their reunion becomes an opportunity to rethink love, ageing, independence and friendship. Warm and reflective, the novel shows how a new home and renewed bonds can help people assemble happiness from imperfect pieces.
