Farmer Hogget wins an orphaned piglet at a fair and brings him home, where the sheepdog Fly takes him under her care. Babe admires Fly and begins learning how to work with sheep, even though he is a pig rather than a dog. His unusual talent and polite way with the flock lead Farmer Hogget to test whether Babe can succeed as a sheep-pig and compete in sheepdog trials.
