As the Second World War spreads across Europe, Saffron Courtney and Gerhard von Meerbach find themselves on opposing sides of a conflict that tests every loyalty. Their families' histories, political convictions and personal courage pull them through espionage, battle and the gathering horror of Nazi power. Love survives only at great risk, while events in Africa and Europe reshape the Courtney legacy. The novel combines wartime adventure with a romance threatened by ideology and betrayal.
